IFP Election Rally Leaves Supporter Dissapointed

ULUNDI – Inkhatha Freedom Party supporter Moses Mkhize reportedly left a recent IFP election rally "none the better” after not being able to understand a single word during party leader Mangosotho Buthelezi’s speech. Mkhize said he was especially disappointed since he had endured a two-hour bus ride in an overcrowded bus “just to see the Honourable Doctor Nkosi Buthelezi.”

“I was really disappointed after traveling so far in the heat. I could not understand anything he was saying. In fact, I wasn’t even sure when one word ended and the next one began”, said Mkhize. Despite numerous efforts to ascertain what was being said from those around him, he remained completely mystified. He reported that between the four people around him, they could not piece together enough of the speech to make sense of it. “I wish he had just spoken in Zulu, but now that the IFP is not just for the Kingdom of KwaZulu, we understand he has to speak in English”, said Mkhize.

An anonymous source at the IFP confirmed that senior party officials are worried about Buthelezi’s inability to pronounce his words properly when speaking in English sentences. It is rumoured that the same officials have considered employing a translator to accompany Buthelezi for his public addresses. “It’s just that nobody has the guts to tell him”, said the source, “Ever since he was laughed out of the ANC for the way he spoke all those years ago, he has been quite touchy about the subject.”

An IFP spokesperson declined to comment, except to say that a copy of the speech was available on the party’s website for all those at the rally who had difficulties.
