About Us

If you didn't already know, a sjambok (pronounced sham-bock) "is a cattle prod, a whip, a riding crop and a means of self-protection. Its considerable reach, lighting speed and devastating impact have also built it quite a reputation as a sure defense against deadly snakes." (www.coldsteel.com, where you can buy one online!)

This web site was created in 2004 out of a love of humour, and satire in particular.   It is intended to make you laugh, and now and again to make you think about the things that come under the sjambok.

"A society that takes itself too seriously risks bottling up its tensions and treating every example of irreverence as a threat to its existence. Humour is one of the great solvents of democracy. It permits the ambiguities and contradictions of public life to be articulated in nonviolent forms. It promotes diversity. It enables amultitude of discontents to be expressed in a myriad of spontaneous ways. It is an elixir of constitutional health." - Justice Albie Sachs, Constitutional Court of South Africa

The site is not a commercial venture and none of the people involved in it earn any revenue from it.  All the creative content , including the design of the site itself, is done voluntarily, in the spare time of those involved.   It does, however, have operating costs such as hosting costs. So, if you would like to contribute financially, perhaps in exchange for advertising space, or even out of the goodness of your heart, please contact us.

Creative contributions, including those by graphic designers/artists/cartoonists, are also welcome.  So if you feel you have something to contribute that fits the 'look and feel' of the site please contact us.

We sjambok all and sundry, without fear or prejudice. There are no sacred cows here and those who are easily offended are bound to suffer humour failure at some point.  That said, we do operate within the boundries of the free speech guaranteed us by the constitution.

For more information on actual sjamboks see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sjambok.
